WOW. In case you didn’t realise, every sculpture in the video was handcrafted from thousands of layers of folded paper, giving the reality bending stretch effect you can see when they are moved.
Chinese artist Li Hongbo creates these amazing works of art, pulling his inspiration from traditional Chinese toys known as paper gourds, which are folded honeycombed paper which is stored flat and can be pulled out into geometric shapes. He applies this principle to blocks of folded paper thousands of sheets thick, which create the illusion of beautiful plaster busts that deform and stretch in an amazing practical effect.
